MOTS-c
The Exercise Mimetic

Mitochondrial-Derived Peptide (MDP)
Primary Function: Activates AMPK and folate-methionine metabolism to mimic exercise-induced metabolic adaptations including enhanced glucose uptake and fatty acid oxidation.

How It Works
MOTS-c is a 16-amino acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial genome (12S rRNA gene). It acts as a retrograde signal from mitochondria to nucleus, activating AMPK (the ‘metabolic master switch’) and modulating folate-methionine cycling. This triggers a cascade of exercise-like adaptations: increased glucose uptake in skeletal muscle, enhanced fatty acid oxidation, improved insulin sensitivity, and protection against metabolic dysfunction. Remarkably, circulating MOTS-c levels increase in humans after exercise and decline with age.

What Research Shows

Prevents diet-induced obesity in mice without reducing food intake

Improves insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance in aged mice

Exercise increases plasma MOTS-c levels in humans (2016 study)

MOTS-c levels correlate inversely with age and metabolic dysfunction

Enhances physical performance and endurance capacity
Ideal Stacks to Research

MOTS-c + SS-31 → mitochondrial function + protection synergy

MOTS-c + 5-Amino-1MQ → dual metabolic enhancement (AMPK + NNMT)

MOTS-c + AOD-9604 → metabolic activation + direct lipolysis
What Makes It Different: The only mitochondrial-derived peptide proven to mimic exercise at the cellular level. Works through the same AMPK pathway that exercise activates.

Research Status / Origin: Discovered 2015 at USC Cohen Lab. No clinical trials yet; extensive pre-clinical and observational human data.

“The mitochondrial trainer — when exercise is impossible or insufficient, MOTS-c delivers many of the same cellular signals.”

Storage Instructions:

Our products are manufactured using lyophilization (freeze-drying), ensuring stability for shipping and storage at room temperature for 3–4 months. Lyophilization involves freezing the peptides and applying low pressure to sublimate water from solid to gas, resulting in a stable, crystalline white powder (lyophilized peptide).

Before Reconstitution: Store lyophilized peptides in a cool, dark place. For short-term storage (days to weeks), refrigeration at 4°C (39°F) is sufficient. For long-term storage (months to years), freezing at -80°C (-112°F) is recommended to maintain stability.

After Reconstitution: Once mixed with bacteriostatic water, peptides must be refrigerated at 4°C (39°F) and used within 30 days to ensure stability. Keep them protected from light.
