Bacteriostatic water is a sterile, non-pyrogenic solution of water for injection containing 0.9% (9 mg/mL) of benzyl alcohol (BnOH) added as a bacteriostatic preservative. This preservative inhibits the growth and reproduction of bacteria, allowing the solution to be contained in a multiple-dose vial for repeated withdrawals over a period of up to 28 days.
